Art Classes enhance a child’s ability to:
- experiment and explore new approaches;
- investigate and question ideas;
- become a creative problem solver and;
- invent and communicate in creative ways that could become very important for the future.

Mary Beth Swicord is a
former K-12 art teacher, who taught elementary art in the
Fairfax County Public Schools for 14 years. Mary Beth has owned and
managed First Marks Studio since 1994, where she teaches and works as a
professional artist.
First Marks Studio creates the space for your artist to enjoy art without time constraints which are unavoidable in the school system. This type of nurturing environment allows your child to receive individualized attention and instruction. Through a variety of media and techniques,
students discover their own personal style and develop confidence in the
creative process.
Academic success alone does not fully prepare your child for the future. Research shows that children exposed to the arts do better in their core curriculum classes, such as math, reading and writing.
