Art Education can:
- Provide an essential foundation for a child's comprehensive development.
- Encourage your child to investigate and question ideas that will broaden their knowledge of self and their world.
- Encourage learners to become creative and critical problem solvers.
- Invent and communicate in creative ways that could become very important in the future.

Mary Beth Swicord is a
certified K-12 art teacher, and taught elementary art in the
Fairfax County Public Schools for 14 years. Mary Beth has owned and
managed First Marks Studio since 1994. Mary Beth's success with First Marks has created many return students, some moving on to study art at college.
First Marks Studio provides a nurturing environment for artists to enjoy the process of creating art. Emerging artists will receive individual attention and instruction so that they may feel safe expressing ideas. Value is placed on providing students with the time and resources needed to create art that cannot be done in most public school settings. By exposing children to a rich palette of art materials: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Clay, Design and Mixed Media, students will find their own expressive experience and medium to work with.
Academic success alone does not fully prepare your child for the future. Research shows that children exposed to rich Art Education achieve better in their core curriculum classes, such as math, reading and writing.
